TFS Learning LMS Computer Configuration Assistance Guide
Purpose
This purpose of this document is to act as a guide for validating that your computer settings meet the minimum requirements for accessing the Tyco Fire & Security LMS system at http://www.tyco-training.com/.
As is the case with technology,
the 3rd party websites and software settings referenced in this
document may change frequently and without notice. Due to the vast difference
in IT policies across the Tyco International environment, the TFS Learning
department highly recommends that you always work with your local IT personnel
first before attempting to download and install software.
When should I use this document?
Perform this procedure when you are having difficulty accessing the TFS LMS or are having difficulty accessing content found on the TFS LMS.
Prerequisites to following these instructions
You must have a computer configured to access the Internet
Procedure
1. Review the following Table to determine the setting that you need to configure.

Pop-Up Blockers |
Pop-up blockers must be disabled. You will need to disable, or work with your local IT department to disable, any pop-up blockers that may be installed on your machine. |

You will need to work with your local IT department to install and enable the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. NOTE: The Sun Java Virtual Machine may work in some instances, however we highly recommend using the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine |

Bandwidth Restrictions |
56Kbps minimum bandwidth should be assumed for courses with no audio or video. 64Kbps should be assumed for courses with audio. 256Kbps minimum bandwidth should be assumed for courses with video. (A high bandwidth, low bandwidth option for courses with extensive audio or vide should be considered when the audience includes people with low bandwidth connections.)

2. To check your version of Internet Explorer, begin by clicking

3. Select Programs
Internet Explorer.
4. Select Help
About Internet Explorer.
5. Perform one of the following:

It is possible that other browsers may
function with the TFS LMS. However, TFS Learning does not support any issues
that may occur as a result of not using the TFS LMS recommended browser.
6. Within Internet Explorer, Select Tools
Pop-up Blocker
Turn Off Pop-up Blocker.
This step describes the process
to disable the Pop-up Blocker functionality of MS Windows XP Service Pack 2.
There are many Pop-up Blockers on the market today. Many free products such as
Yahoo and Google include free Pop-up Blockers with their browser toolbar
software. If you have disabled Windows XP Service Pack 2 Pop-up Blockers and
are still experiencing issues. Please be sure to check with your local IT
support personnel to see if you may have other Pop-up Blockers installed on
your computer.
7. Return to Step1 to continue configuring your computer settings.
8. Within Internet Explorer, Select Tools
Internet Options to open the Internet Options window.
10. Under the
option,
ensure that the
option check box is selected.
If you do not see a Microsoft VM
option, you will need to work with your local IT personnel to get it installed.
12. Return to Step1 to continue validating your computer settings.
Macromedia Flash Player Download Center
13. Within the Internet Explorer Address bar, navigate to the http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/ website.
14. On the Macromedia Flash Player Download Center, be sure to UN-SELECT
the install
option.
Installing the Yahoo Toolbar may
expose you to additional 3rd party software on your computer.
Additional software, such as Pop-up Blockers, may further interfere with
accessing the TFS LMS.
Internet Explorer -
Security Warning
17. The Macromedia Flash Player Download Center site will indicate when Flash Player has successfully been installed on your computer.
18. Return to Step1 to continue validating your computer settings.
19. Within the Internet Explorer Address bar, navigate to the http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html website.
20. As required, complete/review the following fields:
21. Click
to display the
step 2 section of the screen.
22. Be sure to UN-SELECT the
checkbox.
23. Be sure to UN-SELECT the
checkbox.
Installing the Yahoo Toolbar may
expose you to additional 3rd party software on your computer.
Additional software, such as Pop-up Blockers, may further interfere with
accessing the TFS LMS.
24. Click
to display the
File Download window.
File Download -
Security Warning
25. Click
to save the file to your desktop.
26. Double click the file on your desktop to begin installing Adobe Acrobat reader.
Depending upon your version of
Windows, you may see a Widows security message. If this message is displayed,
select
to continue with the installation.
27. Return to Step1 to continue validating your computer settings.
28. Due to the differences in computers, computer manufacturers, and network configurations, we recommend that you work closely with your IT personnel or computer manufacture to validate these specifications.
